According to J. Morcom, SNG Morcom 878, we attributed this issue to a Sicilian mint. Examlpes have been found in excavations at Locri, but there have also finds in Sicily and a number of examples are overstruck on Syracusan coin type Athena/Hippocamp. Calciati attributes them to unidentified mercenaries and suggest a mint in the locality of Scillezio (north-central Sicily).
